Ahmedabad, June 3 (NationPress) After an arduous 18-year journey marked by disappointments and near triumphs, Virat Kohli has finally achieved his dream by lifting the Indian Premier League trophy. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured their first title with a nail-biting six-run victory against Punjab Kings in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday.

Kohli, who contributed 43 runs off 35 balls, was visibly emotional as he realized that the moment he had longed for had finally arrived.

“This victory belongs to the fans as much as it does to the team. I’ve dedicated my youth, my prime years, and all my expertise to this franchise. I have strived to win every season, giving it my all. To be honest, I never imagined this day would come. I was overwhelmed with joy when we won,” Kohli shared during a post-match discussion.

RCB set a challenging total of 190/9, largely due to Kohli’s performance, while all-rounder Krunal Pandya changed the course of the match with an exceptional bowling display of 2/17. Despite a strong start, Punjab Kings fell just short during the climactic final moments.

Reflecting on his tenure with the franchise, Kohli expressed gratitude towards the iconic players who have contributed to the RCB legacy, especially AB de Villiers, who celebrated alongside the team.

“What AB has achieved for this franchise is remarkable. I told him, ‘This victory is as much yours as it is ours.’ He has received the Player of the Match award more than anyone else for RCB, even after retiring four years ago. He deserves to share the podium with us, lifting the trophy,” Kohli said.

The 36-year-old, who holds the record for the most runs in IPL history, candidly discussed his commitment to the team and his drive to continue improving, even as his career progresses.

“I have remained loyal to this team, and they have reciprocated. My heart and soul are intertwined with Bangalore. Although there have been other opportunities, I chose to stay with RCB because it holds immense significance for me,” he added.

Kohli also acknowledged the approaching conclusion of his career but emphasized his determination to give his utmost until the end.

“Every career has a conclusion. Before that day arrives, I aim to leave everything on the field. I can’t simply be an ‘impact player’—I wish to contribute throughout the entire 20 overs, in every possible way. That has always been my approach. With the talent and perspective that God has granted me, I intend to help the team in any way I can,” he stated.

As RCB finally lifted the IPL trophy after years of disappointment, Kohli’s emotional tears on the field conveyed the essence of resilience, fervor, and a dream finally realized. Kohli concluded the season with 657 runs from 15 matches, including eight half-centuries.
