Jaipur, April 13 (NationPress) Renowned cricketer Virat Kohli made headlines on Sunday by becoming the first Asian player to reach the remarkable milestone of 100 half-centuries in T20 matches. Kohli accomplished this feat during the IPL 2025 showdown against the Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. He elegantly secured this landmark with a six off Wanindu Hasaranga, marking his third fifty of the season in just 39 balls while pursuing a target of 174. Kohli remained not out at 62 as his team successfully completed the chase in 17.3 overs with a comfortable margin of nine wickets.
It is worth noting that former Australian opener David Warner was the first cricketer to reach 100 half-centuries in the T20 format.
Kohli's achievement includes his 58th IPL fifty, bringing his overall tally of 50-plus scores in the league to 66, which matches Warner’s record for the most 50+ scores in IPL history.
Throughout his IPL career, Warner, who played for both Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, collected 62 fifties and 4 centuries across 184 matches. In comparison, Kohli has achieved 58 fifties and eight centuries in 258 IPL appearances.
Earlier this week, Kohli made history as the first Indian batter to surpass the 13,000-run milestone in T20 cricket during a match against the Mumbai Indians. This achievement placed him among an elite group, becoming the fifth player overall to reach this mark, following Chris Gayle, Alex Hales, Shoaib Malik, and Kieron Pollard.
In his T20I career for India, Kohli played 125 matches, amassing 4,188 runs, which includes a century and 38 half-centuries. He retired from T20 Internationals on June 29 last year after a memorable performance of 76 off 59 balls in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa at Kensington Oval, Barbados, helping India secure the trophy under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, after which he concluded his illustrious international career in this format.
