New Delhi, May 14 (NationPress) Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif shared his insights on the prospects of Virat Kohli clinching the IPL title this season. He noted that the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have showcased remarkable form and, with their strongest all-round squad, are poised to secure their first championship.

Currently, RCB sits in second place with 16 points, needing just one more victory to guarantee their spot in the playoffs. Virat Kohli, who entered this tournament after winning the Orange Cap in the 2024 season with 741 runs, is now fourth in the race for the most runs this season, having amassed 505 runs—only six runs behind leader Surya Kumar Yadav (510 runs).

“Discussing RCB as a collective unit, they have been exceptional. I emphasize the word ‘team’ because they have historically been a batting-dominant side. Previously, they relied heavily on their batting to overpower opponents. This time, however, Rajat Patidar has excelled in utilizing his bowlers effectively, successfully restricting opponents while defending totals of 170-180,” Kaif explained.

“Kohli has remained consistent, with his bat never going quiet during the IPL. The bowlers have instilled confidence in the team that victory is within reach. Teams with the strongest all-round capabilities typically have the greatest chance of winning; hence, I firmly believe they can achieve it this year,” Kaif stated during an interview with IANS.

Although Kohli has stepped back from T20Is and Tests, he boasts a prestigious career that includes winning the 2011 ODI World Cup, the 2013 and 2025 Champions Trophy, and the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, his IPL team, RCB, is yet to claim the title.

Kohli made his IPL debut shortly after his U-19 victory and has been with RCB ever since. He captained the team from 2013 to 2021, leading them to the finals in 2016, where he scored a record-breaking 973 runs, a record for the highest runs in a single IPL season. The former Indian captain is the only player to have accumulated over 8000 runs in the IPL.
