Ahmedabad, June 2 (NationPress) The captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajat Patidar, is determined to end the team's 18-year trophy drought and bring home the prestigious title for their devoted supporters and Virat Kohli. Kohli has been a vital part of RCB since its inception in 2008, leading the team from 2013 to 2021 and participating in all three finals that ended in heartbreak in 2009, 2011, and 2016.
“Virat's contributions over the years are immense; winning would carry significant meaning, particularly for him and our fans,” Patidar expressed during the pre-match press conference.
With RCB having defeated the Punjab Kings by eight wickets in Qualifier 1 at Mullanpur, they head into the final with an edge.
Conversely, Punjab bounced back from their loss to the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 at the same venue, thanks to a stellar performance from Shreyas Iyer, who scored an unbeaten 87, keeping their aspirations for a first title alive.
Reflecting on his inaugural season as the captain of one of the largest cricket franchises globally, Patidar emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and playing their best cricket.
“Expectations are inherent when leading a team like RCB in a final, but I concentrate on what I can control and remain present. This captaincy journey has been invaluable; learning from top leaders and international players has significantly influenced my approach,” he explained.
Patidar previously faced Iyer in the final of the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where Patidar’s Madhya Pradesh lost to Iyer’s Mumbai by five wickets.
The right-handed batter noted the coincidence of facing Iyer again, but with new challenges ahead. “It’s nice to meet Shreyas in a final again, but we are ready for the new challenge,” he concluded.
