New Delhi, June 3 (NationPress) Rajat Patidar, who has led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to the IPL final in his inaugural season as captain, emphasized that the team is concentrating on the process rather than merely the outcomes for their showdown against Punjab Kings on Tuesday evening.
After a long nine-year wait, RCB has reached the IPL final and is aiming for their first trophy, which has been elusive for 17 years. This marks their fourth appearance in the IPL final, having previously finished as runners-up in 2009, 2011, and 2016 against Deccan Chargers, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively.
"It's my first season as a captain. I'm fortunate to have the support of our coaches and senior players. Their input is invaluable in this new role. Everyone is enthusiastic and ready. Although it's a significant occasion, we're treating it as just another match. It's crucial to manage what we can control. Our focus is on the process rather than the results, especially on such a big stage," Patidar shared in a video released by the franchise on X.
Patidar's RCB holds an edge over PBKS, having defeated them by eight wickets in Qualifier 1 in Mullanpur, securing a direct entry to the final. Both teams concluded the league stage in first and second place, each with nine victories, four losses, and one no-result out of 14 matches.
"I'm incredibly proud of how our players have conducted themselves this season. Being part of this remarkable season has been a privilege, and we've showcased some exceptional cricket to reach the final. We've had similar discussions leading up to other matches, while acknowledging the uniqueness of this final. We've put in significant effort to arrive at this point, so we should relish it. With 100,000 fans expected, the atmosphere will be electric," stated head coach Andy Flower.
RCB’s director of cricket, Mo Bobat, remarked, "This season has been fantastic for us, and we believe we rightfully belong here. Our approach has been consistent throughout the season."
Significantly, PBKS has appeared in an IPL final only once before, in 2014 (when they were known as Kings XI Punjab) and lost to Kolkata Knight Riders. That 2014 season was also the only time Punjab made the playoffs since the concept was introduced in 2011.
With the IPL set to crown a new champion since 2022, RCB and PBKS will clash in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
