Bengaluru, March 17 (NationPress) Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli has shown his unwavering support for Rajat Patidar, the newly instated captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), asserting that he possesses all the attributes essential for steering the franchise towards long-term success.
Patidar succeeds Faf du Plessis, who has transitioned to the Delhi Capitals for the IPL 2025 season. Kohli, who led RCB for over a decade and continues to be the franchise's figurehead, praised the young batter during the team’s Unbox event on Monday.
“This guy is going to lead you for a long time. He is going to do a great job. He has got everything that is required (to succeed),” Kohli shared with the RCB supporters.
Even though RCB has yet to clinch the IPL title, Kohli remains hopeful about the team's prospects this season. “It feels amazing to be back. The excitement and happiness is like every other season. I have been here for 18 years and absolutely love RCB. We have an amazing squad this time around. There is a lot of talent in the team. I am personally very excited about this season,” Kohli added.
This will mark Kohli’s first IPL after stepping away from T20 Internationals. Patidar, who has represented India and has been a pivotal player for RCB, conveyed his appreciation for the chance to helm the team.
“Legends like Virat bhai, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle have donned the RCB jersey. I grew up watching them. From the beginning, I have had a deep affection for the franchise. I am thrilled to take on this new role leading one of the most prominent teams in T20 cricket,” expressed Patidar.
