Langsning FC have announced themselves as genuine contenders in the Durand Cup, remaining unbeaten through their opening two Group E fixtures and collecting four points from a possible six. The Shillong-based club, making their debut in Asia's oldest football tournament, have combined attacking intent with the ability to recover from adversity — qualities that could carry them into the knockout stage.

A Statement Opening: 5-0 Over Mumbay FC

Langsning's campaign opened against fellow debutants Mumbay FC, and the first half offered little indication of what was to come. The Shillong side dominated possession and fashioned chances but could not find a breakthrough before the interval.

Head coach Khlain Pyrkhat Syiemlieh opted against a tactical overhaul at half-time, instead urging his players to return to the structure that had been agreed upon. 'In the first half, they didn't stick to our plan,' he said afterwards. 'When we came back into the dressing room, I told them why they weren't following it. Once we started doing that again, we dominated.'

The response was swift and decisive. Six minutes into the second half, Syed Ahmed headed home from a corner — the club's first-ever Durand Cup goal. Ahmed added a second, while Kyrmenskhem Mukhim, Dibormi Chanlang Ki O Kassar, and Samuel Phawa also scored as Langsning completed a 5-0 rout.

Ahmed and Mukhim: Two Debutants Who Delivered

Ahmed, who narrowly missed a hat-trick, reflected on the milestone with visible emotion. 'It feels amazing,' he said. 'First of all, I thank God Almighty for giving me this opportunity. This is my first Durand Cup and Alhamdulillah, I scored two goals. Inshallah, I'll score more goals in the next matches and help the team qualify.'

Equally noteworthy was the contribution of 18-year-old Mukhim, who scored on debut despite admitting to pre-match nerves. 'When I went onto the ground, I felt scared,' he said. 'But once the match started, I wasn't afraid anymore.' The teenager has already set his ambitions high: 'I want to play for a big club — and hopefully one day for India.'

Syiemlieh has noted that his squad averages around 24 years of age, with five or six players still under 20 — a youthful core that gives Langsning both energy and long-term promise.

Shillong Derby: Comeback Earns a Point Against Nongkseh

The second fixture carried additional weight. Langsning faced local rivals Nongkseh SS&CC in what doubled as a Shillong Derby, with recent history favouring Nongkseh — who had beaten Langsning in both the SSA Champions Cup semi-final and the Meghalaya State League final earlier this year.

Langsning started the brighter of the two sides, forcing two goal-line clearances and seeing an Ahmed effort ruled out for offside. Nongkseh punished those missed chances, with Shano Tariang and captain Hardy Nongbri putting them 2-0 ahead before half-time.

The second half told a different story. Within five minutes of the restart, Mebanshngain Kurkalang headed in from a long throw to make it 2-1. Two minutes later, Ahmed rose to head home the equaliser. The final score of 2-2 preserved Langsning's unbeaten run.

Kurkalang revealed the personal motivation behind his goal: 'I told my mother that I would score today. So I did it for her... and for the love of my life, Veronica. And all thanks to God.'

Ahmed, notably, played through a cut on his head to complete the comeback — a detail that underlined the grit running through this squad.

Coach Syiemlieh Eyes Quarter-Final Qualification

Syiemlieh, who previously guided Bodoland FC to the Durand Cup quarter-finals, is measured in his expectations despite the encouraging start. 'Everybody is happy,' he said after the Mumbay win. 'Most of our players are young, so they were very excited. But our objective remains the same — we want to reach the next stage.'

With four points, seven goals scored, and an unbeaten record, Langsning enter the decisive phase of their Group E campaign in a strong position. Their next test comes against Shillong Lajong FC, a match that could determine whether the 'Men in Pink' advance to the quarter-finals in their very first Durand Cup appearance.
