New Delhi, Oct 6 (NationPress) The sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) is scheduled from December 1 to 23, marking a thrilling 24 days of T20 cricket — the longest season in the tournament's history. For the very first time, Indian cricketers are poised to join, with their identities to be announced soon, creating a fresh wave of enthusiasm among fans in the region.

This season will showcase a total of 24 matches, including 20 league games and 4 knockout matches, taking place at three prime venues – R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, and Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium in Dambulla.

Samantha Dodanwela, the Tournament Director of the LPL, stated, “This edition’s timing has been meticulously selected to provide players with optimal exposure and high-quality match practice ahead of a global cricketing year. The LPL has consistently served as a platform for emerging talent, with numerous youngsters making their presence felt alongside international stars. We anticipate that this year will unveil exciting new talents, potentially surprising the world stage before the World Cup.”

The tournament format will see all five franchises compete against each other twice in the league phase. Following the round-robin stage, the top four teams will progress to the playoffs. The initial playoff match, Qualifier 1, will feature the top two teams, with the victor earning a direct place in the final. The teams in third and fourth will clash in the Eliminator, and the winner will then face the loser of Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2 to determine the second finalist.

As the action unfolds just months before a major global cricket event, the LPL 2025 promises to be a captivating showcase of both international and Sri Lankan talent. This will undoubtedly heighten the anticipation among fans across the subcontinent as the World Cup year approaches.
