Leverkusen, July 2 (NationPress) Bayer 04 Leverkusen has successfully acquired Jarell Quansah, the England U21 international and European champion, in a deal worth 35 million Euros. The central defender transitions from Premier League champions Liverpool to Leverkusen on a contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2030, as announced by the Bundesliga side on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old made his senior debut for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp during a thrilling comeback against Newcastle United in August 2023, achieving 58 senior appearances, netting three goals, and winning both the Premier League and Carabao Cup with the club.
“I gained valuable insights into the team and the club when Liverpool faced Leverkusen in the Champions League last season. They are a fantastic team – for the first hour, they played differently than anyone else at Anfield,” Quansah, who will wear the number four jersey at Leverkusen, remarked.
“The ambitious goals here were clearly outlined during our discussions. It’s an exciting opportunity and challenge for me to contribute to Leverkusen's ongoing transformation,” he added.
His last appearance for Liverpool saw him lift the Premier League trophy in front of the home crowd.
Quansah was part of the England squad that triumphed in the European Under-21 Championship, defeating Germany in the final. He was a standout defender throughout the tournament, consistently performing as a key player.
This transfer marks the third arrangement between the clubs this summer, following Liverpool's acquisitions of midfielder Florian Wirtz and defender Jeremie Frimpong.
“We are thrilled to have secured Jarell Quansah, one of the brightest prospects among English central defenders. His impact on a Liverpool defense filled with world-class talents was remarkable. Jarell will inject additional dynamism, speed, and strength into our defense, becoming a crucial component of the future Werkself,” stated Simon Rolfes, managing director of sport at Leverkusen.
