Was Signing for Liverpool a 'No-Brainer' for Jeremie Frimpong?

New Delhi, July 23 (NationPress) As the Premier League 2025-26 season approaches, Jeremie Frimpong shared his thoughts on his transition to Liverpool. The Dutch full-back discussed the seamless nature of the transfer, expressed his aspirations for his future at Anfield, and conveyed a heartfelt message of appreciation and dedication to the Liverpool fans.

Frimpong joined the Reds prior to the 2025-26 season, stepping in as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold. In addition to the Dutch full-back, Florian Wirtz, a German forward, also made the shift from Bayer Leverkusen to Merseyside.

"Thank you. It’s a privilege to be here at Liverpool. My family and partner are thrilled for me. I’m incredibly thankful and eager for what’s ahead. The whole process was quite smooth. When Liverpool showed interest, it was a clear decision for me. I told my agents — just make it happen, whatever it takes," Frimpong shared with JioHotstar.

During his time with Leverkusen, Frimpong played a crucial role in their remarkable 2023–24 season, contributing 30 goals and 44 assists over 190 appearances throughout his four-and-a-half-year tenure. Under the guidance of Xabi Alonso, he helped the team clinch an unbeaten Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal, with their impressive 51-game unbeaten run concluding in the UEFA Europa League final.

His outstanding performances earned him a spot in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for two consecutive years, highlighting his consistency and attacking capabilities on the right flank.

Originally from Amsterdam, Frimpong started his football journey in the youth academy of Manchester City before moving to Celtic in 2019. In Scotland, he quickly gained recognition, aiding the club to accomplish a domestic treble during his short stay before transitioning to the Bundesliga.

"In five years, I want to look back and say — I’ve won this trophy, that trophy, and more. I want to reflect with my family, friends, and teammates and say — we’ve had an amazing five years. That’s the aim," he added.

On the international front, Frimpong made his debut for the Netherlands in October 2023 and has since earned 12 caps and netted once for the Oranje. His speed, directness, and versatility make him a perfect fit for Liverpool’s evolving tactical approach.
