Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Jan 11 (NationPress) FC Barcelona's forward Robert Lewandowski stated that his team has the capability to overcome Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final scheduled for this Sunday evening at the King Abdullah Sports City stadium. Both clubs secured their spots in the semifinals with relative ease. In the semifinals, Barcelona achieved a 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao, while Real Madrid triumphed 3-0 against Mallorca.
"I'm thrilled about the upcoming match. This final promises to be an exciting encounter, and we intend to showcase our finest football, as these games hold special significance. It represents our first chance to claim a title. We aim to bring home this trophy," Lewandowski remarked to ESPN on Saturday.
Previously, in October, Barcelona delivered a stunning performance by defeating Madrid 4-0 in their initial La Liga meeting of the season. Lewandowski expressed confidence that his squad could replicate that success against Carlo Ancelotti's side, as reported by Xinhua.
"Madrid possesses extraordinary players. Each one is individually formidable. At times they may appear to be playing at a slower pace, seemingly lacking control, but they are preparing to strike decisively. We must be vigilant. Nevertheless, if we perform at our best, victory is within our reach," the Polish striker added.
Currently, Real Madrid holds the top position in the La Liga standings, five points ahead of third-placed Barcelona, who had previously led the table before encountering a series of setbacks in recent matches.
"We started the season exceptionally well. After a string of impressive performances, we went through a phase where we didn't meet our expectations. To win the league, it's crucial to secure victories in the smaller matches," the 36-year-old concluded.
In the semifinal, Jude Bellingham broke through Mallorca's defense in the 63rd minute by threading the ball through a crowded area after Rodrygo hit the post with a diving header, while Kylian Mbappe saw his follow-up effort saved brilliantly by Mallorca's goalkeeper Dominik Greif.
Mallorca defender Martin Valjent inadvertently redirected Brahim Diaz's attempted through ball to Mbappe into his own goal during the second minute of stoppage time, and in the dying moments of the match, Rodrygo celebrated his birthday with a goal, sealing the 3-0 victory.
