Liam Livingstone has been appointed captain of London Spirit's men's side for the upcoming season of The Hundred, the franchise confirmed on 10 June. The 31-year-old England all-rounder takes charge at Lord's, bringing with him a record that makes him one of the most decorated performers in the competition's short history.

Why Livingstone Was the Standout Choice

Livingstone's credentials within The Hundred are formidable. During five seasons with Birmingham Phoenix, he scored 996 runs in just 36 innings, placing him sixth on the all-time run-scoring charts. His 71 sixes remain the highest tally ever recorded by any player in the competition. He was also named the tournament's Most Valuable Player in its inaugural 2021 edition, having guided Phoenix to the final.

His international record reinforces the appointment. Across all three formats for England, Livingstone has made 100 appearances, accumulating 1,903 runs and claiming 58 wickets. In 2021, he struck a 42-ball T20I century against Pakistan at Trent Bridge — the fastest hundred by an England men's player in the format. The following year, he featured in every match of England's victorious ICC Men's T20 World Cup campaign in Australia.

Full Support Structure Unveiled

Alongside the captaincy announcement, London Spirit revealed their complete backroom team for the campaign. Flower continues as head coach, with former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik joining as batting coach and mentor. Former England spinner Graeme Swann takes charge of spin bowling, while former New Zealand international Andre Adams will oversee the pace attack. Richard Halsall completes the unit as fielding and wicketkeeping coach.

This is the most high-profile coaching assembly London Spirit have put together, and with Livingstone's proven big-match temperament at the helm, the franchise will enter the season as credible title contenders.
