Lovlina Borgohain Aspires for Wisdom as She Prepares for LA Olympics
Guwahati, Jan 5 (NationPress) Lovlina Borgohain is focused on her third consecutive summer Olympics, approaching each step with care. Having secured a bronze at the Tokyo Olympics but finishing without a medal in Paris 2024, she has set her sights on Los Angeles 2028.

Guwahati, Jan 5 (NationPress) Lovlina Borgohain is setting her sights on her third consecutive summer Olympics, but she intends to approach it methodically from this point onward. Lovlina, who achieved a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics and returned without any medals from Paris 2024, stated that Los Angeles 2028 is firmly on her agenda.

“Tokyo was held during the COVID pandemic. Paris served as a significant learning experience for me. I put forth my best effort and harbor no regrets about not winning a medal. Every athlete has lessons to learn, and I aim to be more insightful as I head into LA,” Lovlina shared with SAI Media during an interview on the sidelines of the ASMITA Women’s Under-17 football final at the SAI campus in Guwahati on Sunday afternoon.

Accompanying Lovlina was India’s multifaceted lawn bowler, Nayanmoni Saikia, who is a multiple gold medalist at the Commonwealth Games and an esteemed Arjuna Award recipient, known widely in Assam. Both Lovlina and Nayanmoni participated in the Fit India Sundays cycling initiative and emphasized the importance of the “no drugs” campaign led by the Union Ministry of Sports.

Lovlina was the center of attention for the media on Sunday. Assam’s beloved daughter will be nearing 31 by the time the Los Angeles Olympics take place, but the middleweight (75 kg) boxer is optimistic about being “stronger and more experienced” if she can effectively apply her learnings from Paris.

“However, I am not rushing my preparations. LA is still far ahead, and managing my weight and injuries will be fundamental to my strategy. At this moment, my primary focus is the upcoming National Games in Uttarakhand, and performing well for Assam is my top priority,” Lovlina remarked.

“Competing in the World Boxing Cup Final in India later in 2025 is also a goal for me,” she added.

Currently, Lovlina is part of the Athletes Commission of the newly established Asian unit of World Boxing. “It’s a tremendous honor to serve on this committee, as India will now have a voice in decision-making,” Lovlina noted, emphasizing that the technical aspects of boxing, particularly “scoring and judging,” require thorough and unbiased examination.

“Previously, India was merely an ordinary member with minimal opportunities to raise concerns or highlight flaws in the system. This is set to change, as we will now hold seven positions in the Asian body. This is a significant advantage for athletes striving to excel and secure an Olympic medal,” Lovlina explained, adding that “all necessary actions must be taken to keep boxing in the LA 2028 program.”
