IPL pacer Akash Madhwal and India U-19 vice-captain Lakshya Raichandani have been named to lead Mussoorie Thunder in the inaugural Dehradun T20 League 2026, as the tournament unveiled its player pre-signings on 20 August 2026. The league, set to run from 2 September to 9 September 2026, will be held at Abhimanyu Cricket Academy in Dehradun and features six franchises competing for the title.

A Star-Studded Mussoorie Thunder Core

Madhwal, who has represented Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL), brings top-tier T20 experience to the franchise. Alongside him, Raichandani adds youth leadership from India's age-group cricket pipeline. The duo will be supported by Neeraj Rathore and Aryan Garg, both Ranji Trophy performers for Uttarakhand, and Board Trophy standout Poorvansh Dhruv.

Talent Spread Across All Six Franchises

Rishikesh Dragons have roped in IPL player Yuvraj Chaudhary, supported by Ranji Trophy performers Saurabh Rawat, Ravinder Negi, and Aarav Mahajan, plus Board Trophy player Aviral Mishra. Vikasnagar Dhamaka will feature Duleep Trophy player Kunal Chandela, Ranji Trophy performer Shashwat Dangwal, and Board Trophy players Vishal Kashyap and Rohit Danu, alongside uncapped cricketer Vinay Aswal.

Herbertpur Knight Riders have secured IPL campaigner Jagadeesha Suchith, with Devendra Bora, Ashar Khan, Sangam Bajpai, and Ayush Deshwal completing their pre-signed group. Selakui Strikers have assembled a Ranji-heavy core featuring Nishchal Dega, Vijay Sharma, Aryan Sharma, and Piyush Joshi, plus uncapped talent Siddharth Gupta. Doiwala Kings will be spearheaded by Ranji Trophy performer Avneesh Sudha, Board Trophy player Aashman Gulati, and emerging cricketers Divyanshu Yadav, TNR Mohit, and Sarang Rawat.

Mahim Verma, former Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and former Secretary of the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU), called the initiative a significant step for the region. 'The Dehradun T20 League is a progressive and commendable initiative for the development of cricket in Uttarakhand. A league of this nature will provide young and emerging cricketers with valuable exposure to competitive T20 cricket, while giving them an opportunity to showcase their talent alongside experienced players,' he said. Verma added that he is 'confident that the Dehradun T20 League will play an important role in strengthening the cricketing ecosystem of Uttarakhand.'

Why This League Matters for Uttarakhand Cricket

Uttarakhand, a relatively young cricketing state in the BCCI structure, has been steadily producing domestic talent. A franchise-based T20 competition at home offers players the rare chance to compete alongside IPL and Ranji-level professionals without relocating. This is the first edition of the league, and its success could set a template for similar state-level T20 competitions across smaller cricket associations in India.
