Pune, Oct 29 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, has officially unveiled the mascot, kit, and logo for the 'Pune Grand Tour' Cycling Competition. This event is set to serve as a qualifying round for the LA 2028 Summer Olympics, enabling international cyclists to earn vital race points through a multi-stage, multi-day road race scheduled from January 19 to 23, 2026.

In a show of support for the Pune Grand Tour, CM Fadnavis, along with Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, led various event partners, including the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), the Ministry of Sports and Youth Welfare of Maharashtra, and the Pune District Administration. They are committed to promoting a cycling revolution in Maharashtra and across India.

During his speech, the Chief Minister stated, “This is a significant moment for us as we strive to bring India’s first-ever UCI 2.2 global cycling event to Pune. The Pune Grand Tour symbolizes a pivotal moment in Maharashtra’s sporting vision, showcasing our dedication to enhancing sports infrastructure. Our aim is to create an ecosystem that nurtures talent and paves the way for future national cycling champions.”

Recognized as an elite event in the UCI’s annual calendar, the Pune Grand Tour marks India’s inaugural venture onto the international cycling scene, embodying athletes’ resilience, triumph, and enthusiasm for world-class competition. Spanning a demanding 437 km route, this competition will highlight the diverse urban settings, hilly landscapes, and rural areas of Pune District.

Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, who also serves as Pune’s Guardian Minister, remarked, “Cycling transcends mere sport; it is a global movement. Yet, India has yet to join this international community. Today signifies a historic milestone for Pune, Maharashtra, and India as we take our initial steps towards becoming part of the global cycling community.”

Jitendra Dudi, the Pune District Collector and in-charge of the Pune Grand Tour, expressed, “With the launch of the Pune Grand Tour, India boldly steps onto the world cycling stage. Our ambition for 2026 is to ignite a cycling revolution in this great country, inspiring our youth to pursue cycling as a professional sport. We aim to establish a legacy where cycling is recognized not just as a hobby but as a serious pathway to global sporting excellence.”
