Manchester United Activates Harry Maguire’s Contract Extension Amid Leadership Vacuum on the Field

Manchester, Jan 3 (NationPress) Head coach Ruben Amorim has revealed that Manchester United has activated a one-year extension to Harry Maguire’s contract. The 31-year-old defender came to the club from Leicester City in 2019, and although his contract was initially set to end this summer, it will now extend until June 2026.

Maguire has participated in 222 matches, netted 12 goals, and helped secure two significant trophies as a Red Devil: the 2023 Carabao Cup and the 2024 Emirates FA Cup. He is keen on achieving even more success in the future.

During a press conference ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield, Amorim confirmed the contract extension for Harry to the media. He also mentioned that another player is on the verge of signing a new deal.

Amad is close, and we are going to activate our option for Harry Maguire. I spoke with him this morning and emphasized that he needs to enhance his performance on the field; we truly require him. Additionally, he must grow as a leader. We are all aware of the challenges he has faced here, but we need him right now, so we are pleased to activate the option for him,” he stated.

Harry has made seven appearances under Ruben thus far, and his capability to play in a back three—a setup he has often experienced with England—has allowed him to shine, especially in the recent 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. He has also captained the team in the absence of Bruno Fernandes.

When asked about his importance to the team, Ruben responded: “Looking at our squad, we are in need of leaders on the pitch. He is a leader, and he must work on that aspect while also improving his overall performance, so we are pleased to continue.”
