Barcelona, Jan 24 (NationPress) FC Barcelona has officially confirmed the extension of Gerard Martin's contract, which will now run until June 30, 2028.
The young defender signed the new agreement at noon, with notable attendees including Barca president Joan Laporta, youth football director Joan Soler, sporting director Anderson Luis de Souza (Deco), and youth football director Jose Ramon Alexanco.
Martin joined Barca Atletic in the summer of 2023. Under the guidance of Rafa Marquez, he participated in 41 domestic matches and frequently provided cover for the senior squad, making his debut during a friendly against Club America in Dallas just before the Christmas break of 2023.
He also took part in the US tour over the summer, ultimately debuting competitively in the opening league match against Valencia, where he substituted for Alejandro Balde in the 63rd minute, proudly wearing the number 35 jersey.
Since that moment, Hansi Flick has utilized him in ten additional Liga matches, and Martin has also played in Champions League, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup competitions, contributing to the team's triumph in the latter.
This contract extension comes just one day after Barcelona revealed the extension of Ronald Araujo, who is now contracted until 2031.
