New Chandigarh, April 9 (NationPress) Glenn Maxwell, the allrounder for Punjab Kings, has been penalized with a fine of 25 percent of his match earnings and has received one demerit point for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during his team's match against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday evening.
PBKS achieved an 18-run victory over CSK at the New PCA Stadium, thanks to Priyansh Arya’s magnificent century and a disciplined bowling display under pressure.
“Glenn Maxwell acknowledged the Level 1 violation under article 2.2 (abuse of fixtures and fittings during the Match) and accepted the punishment from the Match Referee. The Match Referee’s decision is final and binding for Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct,” stated the official announcement.
According to the IPL Code of Conduct, article 2.2 pertains to the misuse of cricket gear or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during a match.
“Article 2.2 encompasses any actions outside of standard cricket practices, such as striking or
kicking the wickets and any deliberate (i.e., intentional), reckless, or negligent actions that can lead to damage to advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows, and other fittings.
“For instance, this offence may occur if a player swings their bat forcefully in frustration, damaging an advertising board,” the rule explained.
After captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bat against Ruturaj Gaikwad’s CSK, the innings was highlighted by 22-year-old Arya, who delivered an explosive 103 off just 42 balls.
The right-handed batsman made history by recording the fastest century by an uncapped player in IPL, reaching the milestone in only 39 deliveries.
Shashank Singh, who ended up with 50 runs not out, provided crucial stability in the middle overs, helping maintain momentum after Arya's dismissal as PBKS set a target of 219/6.
In reply, Chennai Super Kings managed to score 201 for 5. Devon Conway was the top scorer with 69 runs before being retired out. Shivam Dube added 42 runs, while MS Dhoni remained not out on 27, but the chase fell short as Punjab’s bowlers held their composure at the end to secure the 18-run win.
