Bengaluru, Feb 26 (NationPress) The Mumbai Indians celebrated a decisive win against UP Warriorz, propelling them to the top of the points table in the women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday. MI captain Harmanpreet Kaur expressed her satisfaction, stating that everything her team aimed to execute was successful.

All-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt delivered exceptional bowling figures of 3-18, utilizing slower balls effectively to limit UPW to a disappointing 142/9. She then scored an unbeaten 75 off 44 balls, featuring 13 fours, guiding MI to victory with three balls remaining.

She received solid support from Hayley Matthews, who contributed 59 off 50 balls, as the pair formed a crucial 133-run partnership for the second wicket. On the bowling front, Nat was backed by Shabnim Ismail and Sanskriti Gupta, each taking two wickets, while Hayley and Amelia Kerr claimed one wicket each. “Whatever we tried to execute came off well. I’m really pleased with the outcome. Securing a wicket in the first over is vital, and Nat bowled excellently. Consistency is key, and Sanskriti’s wickets made a significant difference,” stated Harmanpreet post-match.

“Sanskriti is very composed and bowled exceptionally. We have a wealth of experience within the team, and everyone understands their roles. Nat’s batting was impressive, and the pitch behaved differently when she was batting,” Harmanpreet added.

Nat, who earned her fourth WPL Player of the Match award, reflected on her remarkable all-round performance that secured MI's third consecutive victory. “I believe I might be in a purple patch. I’m enjoying my batting right now and feeling confident. We always highlight key players - Kiran Navgire has played some outstanding innings for UPW.”

“We implemented our strategies well. It’s rewarding when it all works out. On another day, she might have cleared the stands. The determination within our group is commendable. Any player can deliver a match-winning performance on any given day,” she noted.

Hayley also spoke about her return to form and the excellent support she received from Nat in Wednesday’s match. “It was a bit rocky for me personally. With Nat at the other end, I aimed to play my part and support her to the best of my ability. I focused on the team’s needs and prioritized accordingly.”

“The pitch felt a bit sluggish. As a backfoot player, I found it easier to adapt there, though I struggled a bit on the front foot. Nat has been phenomenal this season, consistently scoring big with four significant innings in four matches. Her presence instills confidence in our side, making batting look effortless,” she added.

UP Warriorz concluded their Bengaluru leg of WPL 2025 on a losing note, with captain Deepti Sharma expressing disappointment over losing wickets in clusters.

“We lost wickets consecutively. Had we formed partnerships, we could have targeted 160-170. Grace Harris performed her role well during the power-play. We will regroup and return stronger. We aim to learn from this match, maintain our momentum, and focus on building partnerships,” she concluded.
