Kolkata, Feb 19 (NationPress) As both teams strive for their inaugural victory of the season, Mohammedan Sporting Club is set to welcome FC Goa in the opening match of Match Week 2 of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata this Friday.

Mohammedan Sporting faced a narrow defeat, losing 0-1 to Jamshedpur FC in their first match. On the other hand, FC Goa managed a 1-1 draw against newcomers Inter Kashi after falling behind and subsequently equalizing.

Under the guidance of head coach Mehrajuddin Wadoo, Mohammedan SC utilized an all-Indian lineup in their opening game, displaying solid defensive discipline and tactical organization. However, they struggled with precision in the attacking zone. As they return to their home ground, they aim to turn their efforts into points in front of their fans.

Wadoo openly discussed the team's challenges in scoring, acknowledging the need for tactical changes. “We are a young and inexperienced team, and we lack a quality striker. Nevertheless, we have faith in our young players who will strive to give their best. We must work on creating more opportunities; improvement is essential in the final third. Tomorrow, we will aim for a more aggressive offensive approach,” he stated.

However, he warned that the challenge posed by the visitors would not be straightforward. “FC Goa are a formidable team. They will come at us with full force.”

FC Goa arrives in Kolkata eager to enhance their performance after dropping points in their opening game. The Super Cup champions, under the tactical expertise of Manolo Márquez, controlled possession against Inter Kashi but failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Discussing the upcoming match, FC Goa's head coach Manolo Márquez remarked, “We expect a challenging game. They will play without excessive pressure, making them a more dangerous opponent. We understand that they will bring high intensity, and we must match that level. While we may possess more skill, it’s essential to demonstrate that quality on the field if we aim to secure a victory.”

Márquez emphasized the urgency of securing points, adding, “It is vital to get off the mark on the points table promptly. Our team should be competitive throughout all thirteen matches.”
