Kolkata, Feb 20 (NationPress) Pol Moreno and Dejan Dražić each netted a goal as FC Goa clinched a decisive 2-0 victory over Mohammedan Sporting Club, marking their inaugural win in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 at the Kishore Bharti Krirangan in Kolkata on Friday.

This win provisionally propelled FC Goa to the top of the standings with four points from two encounters, while Mohammedan is still in search of their first points after two games.

Moreno initiated the scoring in the 4th minute, and their lead was doubled in the 32nd minute via a penalty executed by Dražić, allowing The Gaurs to head into half-time with a comfortable 2-0 advantage. Pol Moreno received the Player of the Match title for his performance.

Goa struck early; Dražić’s corner kick was met by Moreno, who was unmarked and executed a powerful header past Subhajit Bhattacharjee, leaving the Mohammedan goalkeeper helpless.

They nearly extended their lead shortly after with another impressive play. Brison Fernandes, unmarked in the area, connected with Boris Singh’s cross with a diving header, but it ricocheted off the post.

With dominance in midfield, Goa controlled possession, while Mohammedan sought to exploit counter-attacks to challenge the Goa defense.

The second goal came just before the water break when Udanta Singh was fouled in the box by Bhattacharjee. Dražić scored with composure, placing the penalty perfectly.

Goa maintained their lead throughout the first half, despite further opportunities to increase their score, hampered by poor finishing.

After half-time, Mohammedan's head coach Mehrajuddin Wadoo made three substitutions to alter the game’s momentum. Their fresh players injected energy into the match, creating some promising scoring chances, yet Hrithik Tiwari in the Goa goal remained untroubled.

Muhammed Nemil maneuvered through defenders to find an open Udanta Singh, whose effort was blocked expertly by Sajad Hussain Parray. The defender again intervened to deny Moreno from a subsequent corner.

Goa continued to have opportunities, with Nemil forcing a sharp save from the keeper with a well-placed header. Shortly after, Brison Fernandes missed a chance, failing to keep his shot down after a setup from Moreno.

Mohammedan crafted their best opportunity in the 72nd minute. A clever backheel from Fardin Ali Molla set up substitute Lalthankima, who rushed into the box, but his cutback to Mahitosh Roy was denied by a superb save from Tiwari. The rebound fell to Makan Winkle Chothe, who blasted his shot over the bar from close range.

Both teams threatened in the final minutes, but neither side could capitalize on their chances. Boris shot over after receiving a pass from Mohammed Yasir, while Fardin Ali Molla failed to convert an opportunity created by Lalthankima.

Ultimately, the two-goal cushion was enough for FC Goa to achieve their first win this season and secure the three points.
