Kolkata, March 23 (NationPress) In a stunning display of skill, East Bengal FC achieved a remarkable 7-0 victory over Mohammedan Sporting Club during the Kolkata derby in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 held at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Monday. Both Anwar Ali and Youssef Ezzejjari each netted two goals, contributing to this record-breaking win.

This victory not only sets a new record for the largest margin in derby history between these two teams but also ties for the highest margin in ISL history, matching FC Goa’s 7-0 triumph over Mumbai City FC in 2015.

As a result, the Red and Gold Brigade ascended to fourth place in the standings with 11 points from six matches, while Mohammedan SC languishes at the bottom, still searching for their first points after five games. Anwar Ali was named Player of the Match due to his outstanding performance, which included a brace.

East Bengal launched an aggressive offensive right from the start, demonstrating their dominance within the first few minutes. Their efforts bore fruit in the sixth minute when centre-back Anwar Ali struck a long-range left-footed shot from the left flank, catching Mohammedan keeper Padam Chettri off-guard and finding the bottom-right corner for a 1-0 lead.

The hosts doubled their advantage in the 14th minute when a foul by left-back Sajjad Hussain on Miguel Figueira inside the box led to a penalty. Youssef Ezzejjari stepped up and confidently slotted it home, bringing the score to 2-0.

East Bengal kept up the pressure, with Edmund Lalrindika testing Padam midway through the half. Mohammedan had a rare opportunity in the 29th minute, but Md Fardin’s shot was easily saved by Prabhsukhan Gill.

The match swayed further in favor of East Bengal when Mohammedan's right-back Joseph Lalmuanawma received a second yellow card for a foul, leading to another penalty. Captain Saúl Crespo converted this opportunity in the 38th minute, extending the lead to 3-0.

East Bengal almost scored again before halftime when left-back PV Vishnu hit the crossbar, leaving the hosts with a commanding 3-0 lead at the break.

The second half continued with East Bengal in control. In the 54th minute, Ezzejjari netted his second penalty, marking a unique moment as it was the first instance of a team scoring three penalties in a single ISL match after Miguel Figueira was fouled by Padam.

Despite being down to ten men, Mohammedan attempted to mount a response, with Juwel Mazumder missing a close-range chance in the 68th minute. East Bengal, however, kept creating opportunities, with midfielder Lalhlansanga just missing the target from an Anwar Ali delivery.

The fifth goal came in the 75th minute when PV Vishnu scored from close range following a corner, adding to the tally.

Only four minutes later, Anwar Ali sealed his second goal of the evening with a composed left-footed finish inside the box, assisted by Mahesh Naorem.

In the closing moments of the match, substitute Nandha Kumar capped off this extraordinary performance with a clinical finish in the sixth minute of stoppage time, securing a comprehensive 7-0 victory and three crucial points in the Kolkata derby.

The ISL 2025-26 season will resume on April 3, 2026, following the international break, with Mehrajuddin Wadoo’s team set to visit Punjab FC in New Delhi, currently positioned seventh in the table with eight points and a game in hand.
