New Delhi, March 5 (NationPress) Former Indian wicketkeeper Nayan Mongia has expressed that England's captain Harry Brook presents a significant challenge for Indian bowlers in the second semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, set to take place at the renowned Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

Brook has been in phenomenal form throughout the tournament, notably delivering a match-winning century against Pakistan during the Super 8 stage. Mongia remarked that the England skipper's fearless approach to batting makes him a formidable threat for the opposing team.

"All players are performing admirably, and India must not underestimate any competitor. However, the manner in which Harry Brook is executing his fearless batting and leading his team is truly impressive. His confidence and current form could prove dangerous for our bowlers," Mongia shared with IANS.

While acknowledging Brook's threat, Mongia remains optimistic about the Indian cricket team, highlighting their consistent performance in the tournament.

"I have high hopes for the team. Players have showcased their skills in every match, and this upcoming game will be exciting as the pitch is favorable for batting," he stated.

Mongia also endorsed all-rounder Hardik Pandya, labeling him a potential match-winner for India against England. "Hardik Pandya is my favorite player; he is excelling in both bowling and batting. I believe he will seize the opportunity if he gets a chance to bat," Mongia added.

In parallel, cricket coach Sukhwinder Singh Bawa voiced his support for players Abhishek Sharma and Varun Chakaravarthy, both of whom have faced challenges in the tournament. He suggested that India should maintain the same playing XI for this crucial match.

"I believe that no changes should be made to the playing XI. Abhishek is a match-winner and remains a top batter, and opposing bowlers will still regard him with respect," Sukhwinder mentioned to IANS.

"Varun Chakaravarthy is our secret weapon; class is enduring. It's acceptable if he has had a couple of off matches, but he and Bumrah will play pivotal roles in the game," he continued.

Addressing Jofra Archer's impressive track record against Sanju Samson, Sukhwinder mentioned that the Indian wicketkeeper-batter likely has strategies in place to confront the pacer.

"Samson is a significant player, and given how he has managed the situation thus far, I believe he has devised a plan to counter Archer. Therefore, the match-up may not be as critical in this contest," he explained.

The winner of the India vs England semi-final will proceed to Ahmedabad to face off against the New Zealand team in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 on March 8, while the losing team will be eliminated from the tournament.
