Sheffield, April 21 (NationPress) Stan Moody's debut at the Crucible came to an unfortunate end as the young player faltered during crucial moments, facing a 10-7 loss against Kyren Wilson in the opening round of the World Snooker Championship.

The 19-year-old from Britain was on track to become the youngest player to secure a match victory at the Crucible since Ronnie O'Sullivan in 1995, having initially led 7-3. However, he missed a crucial opportunity to extend his lead to 8-3, as well as another chance to make it 8-6 later.

Wilson, displaying the determination that earned him the title in 2024, rallied to win the last seven frames, celebrating his hard-earned victory with a sigh of relief. With this win, the world number two progressed into the last 16, setting up a match against Mark Allen on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, according to reports from World Snooker.

Moody, the first British teenager to debut at the Crucible since Judd Trump in 2007, appeared confident for much of the match, showcasing his impressive potting and break-building abilities. Despite leading 7-3, he seemed to tighten up as he approached the finish line, losing his momentum.

"I'm really disappointed. I lost too many critical frames. I felt I had the match under control at 7-3, but everything changed from there. It was still a fantastic experience, and I’ll take this as a learning opportunity," Moody expressed.

After trailing 6-3 in the first session, Wilson had chances early in the next frame but missed the green when he was ahead 44-28. Moody capitalized on this by executing a doubled red to center pocket, leading to a 48 clearance. Moody could have gone up 8-3 but faltered on the final red in frame 11 when he was ahead by 35 points. Wilson then cleared the table, forcing a respotted black, which he potted from distance to ignite his comeback.

A break of 63 from Wilson narrowed the gap to 7-5, and in frame 13, Moody missed a risky yellow when trailing 52-15, allowing Wilson to close the gap further.

Moody seemed poised to lead 8-6 but broke down on 68 in the 14th frame with four reds remaining, enabling Wilson to respond with 24 points before needing three snookers on the last red to level the match.

In the next frame, Moody missed a tricky black at 7, giving Wilson the opportunity to take the lead for the first time with a run of 46. Wilson then controlled frame 16, scoring 35 and 34 to make it 9-7.

Moody had a chance to keep the match alive in frame 17, but he missed a challenging final black close to the top cushion, allowing Wilson to seal the victory.
