New Delhi, Jan 28 (NationPress) Singles player Mukund Sasikumar is set to compete in his inaugural Davis Cup match after his suspension, facing Togo in the Davis Cup 2025 World Group I playoff at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association Complex on February 1-2.
The Davis Cup lineup for this match includes a five-member team: Sasikumar Mukund, Ramkumar Ramanathan, Karan Singh, N. Sriram Balaji, and Rithvik Choudary Bollipalli. Mukund will be the highest-ranked player in this tie, positioned at number 368, marking his return after a suspension due to disciplinary issues, which has since been lifted.
“I feel like I'm picking up right where I left off. I have always relished team events, and I am grateful to my teammates for their kindness and support. I am thrilled to be back and to experience the camaraderie of the team once again,” he stated.
“Historically, these ties haven’t posed many challenges for us. Our struggle often arises against stronger teams, where we find it difficult to secure a positive start or to cross the finish line. We've been close multiple times, and I am optimistic that we can initiate a strong performance here, setting a positive tone for the year ahead,” he told IANS.
Additionally, young talents Aryah Shah, Chirag Duhan, and Yuvaan Nandal have been included in the squad, gaining valuable exposure by training alongside the national team. Among them is Karan Singh, aged 21, who is making his debut at the World Cup of Tennis with a seasoned group.
“Players like Karan have been prepared for the Davis Cup for over a year, showcasing exceptional tennis and defeating numerous high-caliber opponents in various tournaments. Now is the perfect moment for him to represent the nation. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the young players steps up to play a live rubber very soon,” Mukund remarked.
“The Davis Cup is an incredible tournament, and it is a dream for everyone to represent their country, including myself. I am eagerly looking forward to this tie, enjoying the great atmosphere with all the captains and coaches. I hope to play many more matches,” Karan shared with IANS.
