Mumbai, Oct 9 (NationPress) The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced on Thursday that elections for the office bearers, Apex Council members, and T20 Mumbai League Governing Council members are scheduled for November 12.

The Apex Council has reappointed J. S. Saharia, former Chief Secretary and former State Election Commissioner of Maharashtra, as the Electoral Officer for the second consecutive year to supervise the elections.

"The election was initially planned for October 23, but due to the festive season, we decided to hold it on November 12 so as not to disrupt anyone's celebrations," an MCA official informed IANS.

In July last year, the association appointed the current secretary Ajinkya Naik as president, making him the youngest to hold the position, succeeding the late Amol Kale, who passed away unexpectedly in June 2024 in New York.

Naik, at the age of 37, won the election against Vice-President Sanjay Naik, who was supported by Mumbai BJP chief and BCCI Treasurer Ashish Shelar, by a margin of 107 votes. He garnered 221 votes, while Sanjay received 114, resulting in a predominantly one-sided contest.

During the recent Apex Council meeting, the MCA announced plans to erect a life-sized statue of former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.

Vengsarkar, who has also served as the association's vice-president, received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the MCA earlier this year in March.

The MCA is also set to establish academies throughout the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to offer world-class training and facilities to aspiring young cricketers.

Recently, the association unveiled a statue of Sunil Gavaskar within the Wankhede premises, which already showcases a statue of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.

In August this year, the MCA inaugurated the Sharad Pawar Museum at Wankhede Stadium, honoring Mumbai’s unmatched contributions to Indian and global cricket.
