Mumbai, March 13 (NationPress) Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt both scored 77 runs each, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur delivered a stunning 36 at the end, leading Mumbai Indians to a formidable total of 213/4 in 20 overs against Gujarat Giants during the Eliminator match of the 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) at the Brabourne Stadium on Thursday.

On a new pitch, Hayley and Nat showcased their skills, forming a remarkable partnership of 133 runs off 71 balls for the second wicket in front of their home crowd. Hayley struck ten fours and three sixes in her quick 50-ball innings, while Nat delivered 10 fours and two sixes in her 41-ball performance.

Harmanpreet then took charge, scoring 36 runs off just 12 balls, featuring two fours and four sixes at an explosive strike rate of 300, propelling MI to an impressive total in a knockout match. The GG bowlers faced a tough time, as none were able to contain MI’s aggressive batting, and their fielding was notably lackluster.

Hayley initiated the innings with a stylish cut for four off Ashleigh Gardner and was nearly dismissed on five when Beth Mooney dropped a catch. Yastika Bhatia added three boundaries in her quickfire 15 runs before falling to debutant Danielle Gibson.

From then on, it was a relentless assault as Hayley and Nat consistently found the boundary. Hayley predominantly scored off the backfoot, including three boundaries off Priya Mishra’s opening over, while Nat focused on driving the ball elegantly, mostly towards the leg side.

The duo benefited from GG's frequent misfields, particularly outside the 30-yard circle, and their inability to hold onto catches. Hayley reached her fifty in just 36 balls with a six off Tanuja Kanwer, while Nat reached her half-century in 29 balls after hitting two boundaries off Meghna Singh.

After Nat hit another six off Danielle, Hayley was dropped again on 57 when Ashleigh failed to hold onto a chance at long-on. To add to GG's misery, Hayley punished Priya with two sixes and a four before being dismissed for 77 runs off 50 balls.

Following that, Priya missed Harmanpreet’s catch at mid-wicket, and from there, the MI skipper took full advantage, hitting Tanuja for two fours and two sixes in the 18th over. Although Nat eventually fell for 77 runs off 41 balls, Harmanpreet continued to dominate with two more massive sixes before being run out on the final ball, as MI surpassed the 210-run mark.

Brief scores:

Mumbai Indians 213/4 in 20 overs (Nat Sciver-Brunt 77, Hayley Matthews 77; Danielle Gibson 2-40, Kashvee Gautam 1-30) against Gujarat Giants
