New Delhi, May 21 (NationPress) Bangladesh's fast bowler Nahid Rana along with two significant members of the coaching staff have opted out of the upcoming T20I tour to Pakistan, citing security concerns just days prior to the team's planned departure.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed that fielding coach James Pamment and strength and conditioning coach Nathan Keily will also not accompany the squad, as the team gears up for a three-match series in Lahore on May 28, 30, and 31.
Rana’s decision follows a distressing incident during the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he, along with several foreign players including Rishad Hossain, had to swiftly leave the country due to rising border tensions between India and Pakistan.
At the time, Rana was a member of the Peshawar Zalmi squad, and it seems the experience has profoundly affected him.
“You can't fault them for feeling traumatized,” stated BCB cricket operations chairman Nazmul Abedeen Fahim. “What Nahid Rana and Rishad encountered was indeed challenging. While Rishad has opted to proceed with the tour, Rana's choice to withdraw is entirely justifiable.”
Fahim mentioned that a few other players were initially reluctant to travel but ultimately decided to join the squad after receiving assurances regarding their safety. He also commended the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for their security measures.
“Pakistan offers top-notch security for visiting teams. I can attest to this from my experience during the Champions Trophy and have complete faith in their dedication. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi personally guaranteed us the utmost protection.”
Initially planned as a five-match series, the Pakistan-Bangladesh T20I contest has been reduced to just three games, with all matches set to be held at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
