London, April 29 (NationPress) Nat Sciver-Brunt has been appointed as the new captain of the England women's cricket team. She takes over from Heather Knight, who concluded her nearly nine-year leadership after the 2025 women's Ashes series.

Sciver-Brunt will oversee all three formats, collaborating with the recently appointed head coach Charlotte Edwards.

"I feel incredibly proud to accept the captaincy of the England Women's team. It's a privilege to be entrusted by Charlotte, someone I’ve admired for years. Since making my England debut in 2013, my goal has always been to support the team in every possible way. I will strive to lead this team to triumph while encouraging them to be their best selves," she expressed.

The 32-year-old has been a vital component of England’s cricketing setup since her debut in 2013 and is widely acknowledged as one of the world’s premier cricketers.

Sciver-Brunt boasts an impressive array of accolades, including the ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year for both 2022 and 2023. She was also honored as PCA Women's Player of the Year in 2017 and 2022 and has been included in the ICC Women's ODI and T20 Teams of the Year for 2023.

Currently ranked third in the ICC world batting rankings for ODI cricket, Sciver-Brunt has served as vice-captain for the last three years.

In 2021, she made her captaincy debut in international cricket during the third T20I match against New Zealand and took charge during the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

Sciver-Brunt was part of the English squad that clinched the 2017 World Cup and has represented England 259 times across formats to date.

Her batting averages stand at 46.47 in Tests, 45.91 in ODIs, and 28.45 in T20Is, alongside taking 181 international wickets.

Most recently, she concluded the 2025 Women’s Premier League in India with an extraordinary 523 runs, becoming the first player to surpass 500 runs in a single season and the first to reach 1,000 runs in the WPL.

The England Women’s team will kick off their 2025 home summer campaign on May 21, hosting the West Indies for three Metro Bank One-Day Internationals and three Vitality T20Is.

Following this, they will welcome India for five Vitality T20Is and three Metro Bank One-Day Internationals.
