New Delhi, Aug 1 (NationPress) With the Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 on the horizon, Haryana Steelers' head coach Manpreet Singh is optimistic about the fitness and preparation of standout raider Naveen Kumar. He stated that Naveen is in peak condition and ready to showcase his skills, emphasizing that the team's management and medical personnel will implement all necessary precautions to keep him injury-free during the season.
Naveen joined the Steelers for a staggering Rs 1.20 crore during his first-ever player auction since debuting. The Steelers, consistent performers since their entry into PKL in 2017, have reached the playoffs in four out of their seven seasons.
"From a fitness and injury standpoint, Naveen has no issues at the moment. A player of his caliber significantly enhances the raiding lineup of any team. We are committed to ensuring he remains in top form," Manpreet shared with IANS during an exclusive interview at the PKL pre-season Media Day with JioStar expert Rishank Devadiga.
"Naveen experienced an injury during PKL 10, which required surgery. Last season, he couldn't perform at his usual level—where he typically scored back-to-back Super 10s. After such an injury and subsequent surgery, it’s challenging for a raider to return to form.
"However, as the league progressed towards its conclusion last season, Naveen's performances improved markedly. He also excelled in the Nationals and has recently shown impressive form in the Services matches," he added.
Having retained their championship-winning core ahead of the PKL 12 auction, the Steelers have acquired 10 new players to enhance their roster. With an investment of Rs 4.983 crore, they have crafted a formidable team aiming for the championship.
Discussing the equilibrium his team has struck in both raiding and defense, Manpreet noted, "Our goal in the auctions was to create a well-balanced squad. Naveen brings invaluable raiding experience. Our raiding was already strong, but his addition elevates it further. Defensively, we have Rahul and Jaideep, who have been reliable over the past two seasons, now set to enter their third season.
"We’ve also included two promising young defenders in the mix. The overall balance of our team looks excellent. Young talents are bringing energy and skill. Last season, we achieved victory in 18 out of 22 matches, and we aim to carry that momentum forward.
