Christchurch, June 11 (NationPress) - Opener Georgia Plimmer and wicketkeeper-batter Izzy Gaze lead a 15-member squad representing New Zealand A on their white-ball tour of England, commencing in late June.

This squad comprises 11 players with prior experience in the national team and will participate in a six-match series in England later this month. The itinerary includes three List A one-day matches followed by three T20 games, marking the return of a bilateral A series integrated into NZC’s women’s development pathway initiated last year.

The team will set off on Saturday, with their opening One Day match scheduled in Derby on June 23. According to New Zealand Cricket, assistant coach Brendon Donkers will announce the captains once the squad convenes in England.

Plimmer and wicketkeeper-batter Gaze are at the forefront of a formidable batting lineup that includes Jess Watkin, recent international entrants Bella James and Polly Inglis, Emma McLeod, and Izzy Sharp.

Watkin comes off a remarkable summer, showcasing excellent performances that propelled her team to the Super Smash elimination final for the second consecutive year.

Inglis, McLeod, and Sharp made their White Ferns debut during the home series against Sri Lanka in March, alongside left-arm seamer Bree Illing and all-rounder Flora Devonshire.

The 21-year-old Illing made a splash on the international stage, taking an impressive two for 42 on her debut in the first ODI against Sri Lanka, notably dismissing their captain Chamari Athapaththu in back-to-back matches.

Hannah Rowe and Molly Penfold are set to spearhead the pace bowling contingent, supported by Emma Black, Amie Hucker, and Illing.

Following consistent performances in recent domestic seasons, all-rounder Nensi Patel will again have the chance to challenge herself at this level, having played in New Zealand A’s one-day series triumph over England A last March.

The spin department includes all-rounders Patel, Watkin, and Devonshire, along with Anna Browning.

NZC Head of Women’s High Performance Liz Green emphasized the value of A tours for player development.

“We are thrilled to send this talented group to England. They will have the opportunity to enhance their skills against strong competition in varying conditions while experiencing the essence of international tours. A tours are vital to fostering depth within the team,” stated Green.
