Richard Ngarava has been confirmed as Zimbabwe's captain across Test and One-Day International (ODI) cricket, while veteran all-rounder Sikandar Raza retains the T20I captaincy, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) announced on Friday, 10 July. The appointments, ratified at a board meeting in Harare, also elevated experienced all-rounder Josephine Nkomo to lead the national women's side.

Leadership Structure Across Formats

Fast bowler Ngarava recently made his captaincy debut in the one-off Test against Bangladesh at the Harare Sports Club and has been leading the side in the ongoing ODI series against them. Young batter Brian Bennett has been named Test vice-captain, signalling ZC's intent to develop the next generation of leaders.

In a cross-format arrangement, Raza will serve as ODI vice-captain under Ngarava, while Ngarava will conversely deputise for Raza in the T20I format. For the women's team, left-arm seamer Nomvelo Sibanda has been appointed vice-captain alongside Nkomo.

Nkomo takes over from long-serving skipper Mary-Anne Musonda, who announced her retirement from international cricket in April 2025. We are equally confident that Brian Bennett, Nomvelo Sibanda, and the vice-captains across our national teams will provide invaluable support while continuing to grow into leadership roles of their own.'
