Harare, July 10 (NationPress) Zimbabwe has announced a 16-member squad for the forthcoming T20I Tri-Series featuring South Africa and New Zealand, with all-rounder Sikandar Raza appointed as captain on home turf.
The series is set to take place from July 14 to 26 at the Harare Sports Club, where each team will compete against one another twice in a round-robin format, leading to a final showdown between the top two teams.
Zimbabwe’s lineup showcases a mix of seasoned players and emerging stars, including the return of significant contributors from injury.
Left-arm fast bowler Richard Ngarava, who had been recovering from a lower-back injury, is back to reinforce the bowling lineup, joining fellow pacer Blessing Muzarabani. Young all-rounder Brian Bennett, who was sidelined during part of the recent Test series against South Africa in Bulawayo due to a concussion, has also been cleared to participate.
The squad retains Ryan Burl, Tony Munyonga, and Tashinga Musekiwa, all of whom demonstrated their skills during Zimbabwe’s last T20I series against Ireland in February. Adding further depth are three uncapped players in the shortest format: wicketkeeper-batter Tafadzwa Tsiga, left-arm pacer Newman Nyamhuri, and leg-spinner Vincent Masekesa.
Zimbabwe enters the series following a heavy defeat in both Tests at the Queen's Sports Club in Bulawayo, where South Africa's stand-in skipper Wiaan Mulder scored a remarkable 367 not out in the second Test.
Zimbabwe will kick off their campaign on July 14 against South Africa, followed by a match against New Zealand on July 18. They will face South Africa again on July 20 and conclude their round-robin matches against New Zealand on July 24.
The final will feature the top two teams from the standings and is slated for July 26.
