Harare, Sep 2 (NationPress) Zimbabwe has unveiled a 16-man squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, which kicks off on Wednesday at Harare Sports Club.

The remaining two matches are slated for Saturday and Sunday at the same venue, with all games commencing at 1:30 PM local time.

Zimbabwe recently endured a 2-0 clean sweep in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, following a five-wicket loss in the second match on Monday.

Sikandar Raza will continue as captain in the T20I format, and Zimbabwe is set to benefit from the return of veteran all-rounder Sean Williams, who last played in this format against Bangladesh on May 12, 2024.

Additionally, experienced wicketkeeper-batter Brendan Taylor is making his return to the T20I team after a significant hiatus.

New inclusions in the squad also include Brad Evans and Tadiwanashe Marumani, while Newman Nyamhuri, Wessly Madhevere, Vincent Masekesa, and Tafadzwa Tsiga are left out from the squad that participated in last month’s triangular series against New Zealand and South Africa.

This series marks a crucial step in Zimbabwe’s efforts to build a reliable core ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier, scheduled to take place in Harare later this month.

Zimbabwe struggled in the T20I Tri-Series, securing no victories against South Africa and New Zealand in July. However, they aim to change their fortunes against Sri Lanka in this shorter format.
