Udaipur, Jan 31 (NationPress) Vishal Nishad, the latest addition to the Punjab Kings, spoke about the profound impact of India's phenomenal cricketer Virat Kohli on his journey and shared his thoughts on what he would do if he ever had the chance to bowl out his idol, stating he would 'touch his feet'.
A devoted admirer of Kohli, Nishad emphasized how the former Indian captain has motivated him to pursue cricket. “My idol is Virat Kohli. His determination and spirit drive me; he’s my all-time favorite,” Nishad expressed.
When discussing the prospect of facing Kohli on the field, Nishad was asked how he would react if he succeeded in taking Kohli's wicket. “If I get his wicket, I’ll touch his feet because he’s my idol,” he responded, showcasing the blend of ambition and humility that characterizes the Punjab Kings.
A remarkable product of a local T20 league, Nishad's journey illustrates immense perseverance and family support. “There were challenging times. I used to accompany my father to help with work. I even considered quitting cricket,” Nishad recounted. “My mother suggested I pursue a different path since becoming a cricketer is tough. But I remained steadfast and told her, ‘Mom, I will surely achieve it.’ Once they recognized my determination, my family supported me wholeheartedly.”
Initially a tennis-ball cricketer, Vishal was encouraged to switch to professional cricket by a friend who admired his natural throwing prowess.
“I started with tennis-ball cricket. A friend saw my throwing skills and encouraged me to try the leather ball because he liked my bowling action. That sparked my serious practice. That’s how my cricket journey commenced,” he disclosed.
He further added, “For three years, my coach waived my fees. Eventually, I participated in a local T20 tournament in Uttar Pradesh, where I excelled. After two years of competing, I found myself here with the Punjab Kings.”
Discussing his decision to become a bowler, Nishad noted that his experience with tennis-ball cricket was crucial. “Practicing with the tennis ball helped me master spin. I adapted those skills for the leather ball, which significantly contributed to my success as a bowler.”
