New Delhi, June 8 (NationPress) The head coach of the United States, Mauricio Pochettino, has refuted rumors about a possible return to Tottenham Hotspur, asserting that stepping in for Ange Postecoglou is "not realistic" at this moment.
Postecoglou was dismissed from his position as Spurs' head coach on Friday, even after leading the team to their first trophy in 17 years by clinching the Europa League.
Pochettino, who managed Tottenham for five years before departing in November 2019, has been mentioned as a potential candidate for the role.
However, the Argentine, who took on the role of US head coach in October 2024, has indicated satisfaction with his current job.
"Today it's not realistic. Look where I am. Look where we (his coaching staff) are. The answer is incredibly clear. Since my departure in 2019, my name has consistently appeared on the list of potential candidates," Pochettino remarked.
"I've seen the speculation; we are among many coaches on the list. Don’t worry about that. If anything transpires in the future, it will be visible, but I am genuinely content at this moment, and we can't discuss this type of speculation," he added.
These remarks were made following the US national team’s 2-1 defeat to Turkey in Connecticut. This loss marked the team’s third consecutive defeat, leaving Pochettino with a record of five wins and four losses in his first nine matches.
During his previous tenure at Spurs, Pochettino guided the team to the Champions League final in 2019 and secured a second-place finish in the Premier League in 2017.
Currently, Brentford's Thomas Frank is among the frontrunners to succeed at Tottenham, with Marco Silva from Fulham also generating interest.
The United States is set to co-host the 2026 World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico.
