Colombo, Oct 2 (NationPress) In a thrilling start to the third match of the Women’s World Cup 2025, Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first against Bangladesh at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Thursday. The Bangladeshi side is captained by wicketkeeper-batter Nigar Sultana, while the Pakistani team is under the leadership of young Fatima Sana.
The last four ODI encounters between these two teams have been closely contested, with each side claiming victory in two matches, including a nail-biting Super Over win for Bangladesh.
Both teams have faced challenges recently, with two wins and three losses over their last five ODIs. Pakistan, however, comes off a victory against South Africa in their latest ODI series, while Bangladesh enters the match with two consecutive losses from the World Cup Qualifier against the West Indies and Pakistan.
Despite this, Bangladesh managed a narrow triumph against Sri Lanka in the warm-up games, boosting their confidence ahead of this crucial clash.
Upon winning the toss, Pakistan's captain Fatima noted the presence of three players making their World Cup debut. She expressed optimism, stating, “The pitch looks good for batting, and we hope to play well. Every team is a challenge in the World Cup; if we perform at our best, we can defeat anyone.”
On the other hand, Bangladesh's captain Sultana mentioned their preference to bat first but expressed readiness to bowl if necessary. “We found the pitch favorable during warm-ups. Our team has been training diligently, focusing on both fitness and skills. Today, we have a debutant as well,” she added.
