Dharamshala, Dec 14 (NationPress) Hardik Pandya, the seam bowling all-rounder, has etched his name in history by becoming the third Indian bowler to secure 100 wickets in men’s T20I cricket. This remarkable achievement occurred during the ongoing match against South Africa at the HPCA Stadium on Sunday.

Prior to this match, Pandya had accumulated 99 wickets from 122 matches, with an impressive average of 26.81 and an economy rate of 8.24. His finest performance in T20Is is recorded at 4-16 against New Zealand in Ahmedabad in 2023, following his debut against Australia in Adelaide in January 2016.

During the match in Dharamsala, Pandya achieved his 100th wicket by bowling out Tristan Stubbs in the seventh over. Stubbs attempted to steer a back-of-a-length delivery outside off stump from Pandya towards third man but ended up nicking it to wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma.

With this achievement, Pandya joins the ranks of pacers Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah, who have also reached the 100-wicket milestone in men’s T20Is. Bumrah, who is absent from the ongoing game for personal reasons, accomplished this earlier in the T20I series opener at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack by dismissing Dewald Brevis.

At the age of 32, Pandya is the first Indian men’s player and seam-bowling all-rounder to join the prestigious club of players who have taken 100 wickets and scored 1000 runs in T20Is. This feat has only been previously achieved by spin-bowling all-rounders: Shakib Al Hasan from Bangladesh, Mohammad Nabi from Afghanistan, and Sikandar Raza from Zimbabwe.

With the bat, Pandya has scored 1939 runs at an average of 28.10 and an impressive strike rate of 141.53. As a crucial member of the Indian team that won the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, he is now among the fourth men’s cricketer to achieve the dual milestone of 100 sixes and 100 wickets in the format, joining the elite company of Nabi, Raza, and Virandeep Singh from Malaysia.
