New Delhi, Dec 20 (NationPress) Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya concluded a remarkable T20I series against South Africa with an impressive display of power-hitting and a heartfelt act of sportsmanship during the final match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After one of his sixes accidentally struck a cameraman, Pandya took the time to check on him.
Pandya, maintaining his excellent form, scored 63 runs off just 25 balls, launching five enormous sixes that put pressure on the visiting team. However, one of his powerful hits caused an unforeseen incident when the ball collided with a cameraman positioned near the boundary.
Fortunately, the cameraman only suffered a bruise, prompting an immediate and sincere reaction from Pandya. After India’s innings concluded, the 30-year-old made his way to the boundary to personally ensure the cameraman was okay.
In a video shared by BCCI, Pandya is seen examining the injured area, assisting with an ice pack as first aid, and embracing the cameraman in a show of empathy.
Reflecting on the moment, Pandya expressed concern about what could have been a much more serious situation: “God was with me as well, that it didn't go anywhere above that. It hit him in a place that will bruise tomorrow, but at the same time, he was a very lucky man. I am very grateful that it didn't go higher. I got really worried inside because it was quite a clean hit. I just thought I would say sorry and check in. I have seen him around all the 10-11 years of my career. Just wanted to make sure that he was fine,” Pandya stated in the video.
On the field, India maintained dominance throughout the match. Tilak Varma supported Pandya’s explosive innings with a steady 73, leading the team to a formidable total of 231 for 5. While South Africa attempted to chase, Varun Chakravarthy’s four wickets curtailed their progress, restricting them to 201 for 8.
Ultimately, India claimed a 30-run victory, wrapping up the series with a decisive 3-1 result and underscoring their prowess in the shortest format.
