Paris 2024: IOC President Bach Declares it the 'Olympic Games of a New Era'

Lausanne, Dec 6 (NationPress) The Paris 2024 Olympic Games captivated an incredible 84 percent of the potential global audience - around five billion people - according to the Paris 2024 Insights and Audience Report released on Thursday.
The report, based on independent research conducted on behalf of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), showcased extraordinary digital engagement during the Games. Social media platforms recorded 412 billion engagements, which signifies a 290 percent increase compared to the Tokyo Games, fueled by over 270 million posts across various platforms, reports Xinhua.
A total of 28.7 billion hours of footage were viewed globally on media platforms, marking a 25 percent increase from the prior Games. On average, each viewer engaged with nearly nine hours of coverage. In France, 95 percent of the population participated, watching an average of 24 hours of Olympic events.
The IOC's digital platforms significantly contributed to this achievement, generating 16.7 billion engagements - an increase of 174 percent from earlier Games. Collectively, Olympic athletes, National Olympic Committees, International Federations, and Organizing Committees gained 85 million additional followers. Notably, Gen Z audiences exhibited increased engagement, brand affinity, and connection to the Games compared to the broader population.
"Paris 2024 showcased the remarkable global appeal of the Olympic Games," stated IOC president Thomas Bach. "The independent surveys further indicate that people recognize the Olympic Movement's mission to unite the world in peaceful competition as increasingly vital in a divided world, and that the Olympic values resonate strongly with younger generations."
"These were Olympic Games of a new era," he remarked.
As the first Olympic Games fully organized in alignment with Olympic Agenda 2020, Paris 2024 prioritized inclusiveness and sustainability, receiving favorable feedback from both athletes and spectators.
According to the report, 95 percent of surveyed athletes reported positive experiences. 70 percent of respondents viewed Paris 2024 as successful and anticipated it would create a positive legacy. Additionally, 85 percent of ticketed event attendees rated their experience as excellent or good.
"The Paris 2024 Organizing Committee laid the foundation for the immense excitement we all felt this summer, which is something that cannot be planned. This way, our Olympic Agenda vision became a reality.
Paris 2024 met global expectations. These were genuinely Olympic Games of a new era. People yearned for something that offers hope, joy, pride, and unity. This was the essence of the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
"I can only express my gratitude: merci beaucoup Paris 2024, and chapeau," Bach concluded.
The final assessment of Paris 2024 will proceed into 2025, concluding with the official evaluation process and the final report to the IOC Session in March.
