New Delhi, June 1 (NationPress) The mentor of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Dinesh Karthik, has expressed admiration for skipper Rajat Patidar, highlighting how he has stayed humble despite his new role. Karthik emphasized that the 32-year-old remains unchanged since taking on the captaincy.
In an unexpected move ahead of IPL 2025, RCB appointed Patidar as their captain. This marks his inaugural experience at the helm of an IPL team, following his prior achievement of leading Madhya Pradesh to the finals of the 2024/25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Karthik remarked, “Rajat Patidar has been the biggest eye-opener for me in life. It’s common for individuals to change their behavior when they receive recognition or power. However, Rajat has shown remarkable consistency. He has not altered his approach since assuming the captaincy, and that's commendable,” he stated during the second episode of RCB's Journey to the Finale.
After a nine-year wait, RCB has reached the IPL final, thanks to a dominant eight-wicket victory over Punjab Kings. Their bowling unit delivered an exceptional performance, dismissing PBKS for a mere 101 runs in 14.1 overs. With the bat, RCB overcame a challenge from Kyle Jamieson, led by Phil Salt's explosive 27-ball 56, clinching the win in just 10 overs.
Mo Bobat, the Director of Cricket, commented on Patidar’s poised demeanor and inclusive leadership style, saying, “One of the most impressive traits Rajat displays is his calmness. He effectively utilizes his teammates, whether it's Jitesh as vice-captain, or senior players like Virat and Krunal, and even Josh Hazlewood.”
Reflecting on the season, Bobat noted the team's strong foundation and momentum established early on. “We’ve maintained good consistency this season. We faced challenges early on in away games, and we aimed to make a strong statement right from the start. Winning those initial matches in tough venues like Chennai and Mumbai boosted the team's confidence,” he explained.
Bobat added, “Although we faced some struggles at home initially, once we figured out how to secure wins there, it significantly enhanced our confidence and propelled us forward.”
He also mentioned the recognition many players received for their performances throughout the season, stating that it reflects the tight-knit group they have off the field, which has positively influenced their on-field synergy.
