New Delhi, May 2 (NationPress) Australian cricketer Kurtis Patterson has officially joined Surrey on a three-match agreement during the current County Championship season. He is set to participate in the match against Warwickshire from May 16-19, along with two home matches against Yorkshire and Essex.
Patterson, who has played two Test matches for Australia against Sri Lanka in 2019, arrives at the County Championship after a remarkable performance in the 2024/25 Sheffield Shield season, where he amassed 743 runs for New South Wales with an impressive average of 57.15.
“I’m excited to join Surrey. Playing county cricket has always been a dream of mine, so I seized the opportunity to represent Surrey when it arose. I’ve heard excellent feedback about the atmosphere at Surrey and eagerly anticipate playing before the fans at Kia Oval,” Patterson stated in a club announcement on Friday.
This signing comes at a crucial time for Surrey, as they will be without the services of Ollie Pope, Jamie Smith, and Gus Atkinson, who are expected to be part of England's squad for the one-off Test against Zimbabwe starting on May 22.
“Given the absence of our England players, I’m delighted to welcome Kurtis Patterson to our squad. He’s a top-tier cricketer who will enhance our batting lineup for the next three matches,” remarked Alec Stewart, Surrey’s High-Performance Advisor.
Besides Patterson, other Australian players currently participating in the County Championship include Cameron Green and Cameron Bancroft (Gloucestershire), Daniel Hughes (Sussex), Peter Handscomb (Leicestershire), and Caleb Jewell (Derbyshire).
Seam-bowling all-rounder Beau Webster is poised to make his County Championship debut for Warwickshire against Yorkshire, alongside pacer Jordan Buckingham, on Friday.
Meanwhile, Marcus Harris will compete for Lancashire against Gloucestershire on Friday, while Marnus Labuschagne will play in two matches for Glamorgan ahead of Australia’s World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa in June.
