Leeds, July 19 (NationPress) Indian cricketer Ruturaj Gaikwad has decided to withdraw from his County Championship contract with Yorkshire for personal reasons.

The captain of the Chennai Super Kings had initially signed a five-match agreement, beginning with a match against the current champions, Surrey, at Scarborough on July 22.

Yorkshire's head coach, Anthony McGrath, mentioned that the team is currently exploring options for a replacement, but other factors are also at play ahead of the 10th round match.

“Regrettably, Gaikwad will not be joining us due to personal matters,” McGrath stated. “We will be without him for the Scarborough match and for the remainder of the season, which is disappointing.”

“I cannot disclose the reasons behind this, but we sincerely hope everything is alright. We have just been informed,” he added.

“We are actively looking for solutions behind the scenes, but with only two or three days left until the match, time is a crucial factor. We are trying to secure a potential replacement, but I cannot provide further details at this time,” he concluded.

After signing the deal last month, Gaikwad expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I am thrilled to join Yorkshire for the remainder of the English domestic season. Experiencing cricket in this country has always been a dream, and there is no greater club in England than Yorkshire.”

The Maharashtra batter has been out of action since April 8 due to an elbow fracture sustained while captaining the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2025 season. Although he recovered in time to be selected for the India A squad touring England, he remained unused in both matches against the England Lions.

While Gaikwad has gained recognition in white-ball cricket, his performance in red-ball cricket has been inconsistent, averaging 41.77 in First-Class matches with 2,632 runs in 38 games. His struggles were particularly notable during India A’s tour of Australia last year, where he only scored 20 runs across four innings.

During the 2024–25 Indian domestic season, Gaikwad managed to score 571 runs over 12 innings, including a solitary century.
