The 28-year-old batsman is set to integrate into the Yorkshire team prior to their County Championship clash against Surrey at Scarborough in July. He will remain with the club until the conclusion of the season and will also be eligible for the Day Cup.
“I’m thrilled to be joining Yorkshire for the remainder of the English domestic season. Experiencing cricket in this country has always been a personal aspiration, and there is no greater club in England than Yorkshire,” Gaikwad expressed in a statement.
“I understand the significance of making an immediate impact during this critical phase of the season. We have some essential fixtures in the County Championship, and the One Day Cup presents a fantastic chance to secure some silverware.”
Previously, Gaikwad was part of the India A squad for the series against England Lions, but he did not participate in the unofficial Tests after being sidelined for the latter part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season due to an elbow fracture.
As the captain of the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy, the Pune native boasts an impressive record, with six international ODI caps and 23 T20I appearances.
“I’m incredibly happy to welcome Ruturaj to our team for the second half of the season. He is a highly skilled cricketer with a natural all-round game that aligns perfectly with our playing style.
“Ruturaj will provide additional strength in our batting order while possessing the capability to score quickly when needed. He is an exciting talent and is well-respected within the cricketing community,” stated Yorkshire Head Coach Anthony McGrath.
The right-handed batsman can play in any position within the top four and has demonstrated adaptability by stepping up to open the batting for India when necessary.
General Manager of Cricket Gavin Hamilton added, “Ruturaj has a commendable track record across all formats and is a versatile player who will greatly enhance our capabilities in the latter half of the season.
“Everyone at Yorkshire CCC is excited about Ruturaj’s signing, and we eagerly anticipate his arrival in July.”
