New Delhi, April 29 (NationPress) McLaren CEO Zak Brown asserts that drivers' championship frontrunner Oscar Piastri is "only going to get stronger" following his remarkable third victory of the season in Saudi Arabia.
Piastri currently leads the McLaren team this season, holding a 10-point advantage over teammate Lando Norris after a stellar start in the initial five races.
In an interview with F1 TV after the Jeddah race, Brown was asked if Piastri's new position as a leader instead of a chaser might shift his mindset. He responded, "I’m here to announce to everyone (that) I think he’s only going to get stronger."
Brown also addressed questions regarding what this could imply for Norris, who executed a commendable recovery to finish fourth after crashing out during Saturday’s Qualifying session in Q3.
“We’ve got our two number ones,” Brown stated about the drivers’ equal status within the team. “I think they’re equal, they race each other hard. I believe we have yet to witness them truly engage in an epic battle – I’m looking forward to that day.”
“They race hard, they race clean, so I know everyone’s anticipating that significant moment. I believe it’s going to be a bit of a non-event for us internally.
“We know it’s more of a when than an if. We have two exceptional Grand Prix drivers racing fiercely, side by side most of the time – something’s going to happen, but that’s racing, so I’m excited.”
Piastri and Norris will have their next chance to potentially clash at the Miami Grand Prix, which was where Norris celebrated his inaugural Formula 1 victory back in 2024.
