PKL Season 11: Ajay Thakur's Return Signals Positive Growth for the Future, Asserts Puneri Paltan CEO

Pune, Dec 10 (NationPress) Former national team captain Ajay Thakur has made a notable return to the Puneri Paltan, rejoining the squad as an assistant coach. He comes with extensive experience and a profound emotional bond with the team he previously played for during two seasons.

The timing of his comeback is particularly crucial. With the team currently facing a pivotal phase in the tournament, Thakur's expertise could serve as the much-needed spark. The defending champions have encountered challenges this season, sitting in seventh place on the points table after suffering defeats in their last three home matches.

Speaking about his return, Thakur shared his enthusiasm, stating, “I feel really good because when I was playing, I was also part of this team. Now, in the third phase of my career, I’ve returned to the same team.”

Team CEO Kailash Kandpal emphasized the strategic vision behind Thakur's appointment. 'We are always focused on long-term team development. The management views him not merely as a coach but as a guiding influence capable of offering invaluable insights to our current players,' he explained.

Thakur represented the Puneri Paltan in seasons 3 and 4, participating in 30 matches and accumulating 115 Raid Points across those seasons. Interestingly, he also debuted as a coach against Dabang Delhi K.C, the team with which he clinched the PKL trophy in 2021, alongside their current head coach Joginder Narwal.

Dabang Delhi's head coach Joginder praised Thakur's return to the PKL mat, stating, “Ajay is someone I've played with for many years, both in national and international tours and in Pro Kabaddi. We were even roommates when we were on the same team. He’s not just an excellent kabaddi player but also a wonderful person. I’m thrilled to see him back as an assistant coach, and he undoubtedly has the ability to enhance the team.”
