Did Pramod Always Dream of Representing His Country?

New Delhi, July 3 (NationPress) Hockey India has unveiled the India A roster for the forthcoming European tour, featuring 25-year-old Pramod, a defender hailing from the small town of Narwana, Haryana. This opportunity represents his inaugural experience wearing the Indian jersey on an international stage, a significant achievement born from relentless dedication and outstanding performances in domestic competitions.

The India A squad is set to compete in eight matches during the tour against elite European teams such as Ireland, France, the Netherlands, England, and Belgium from July 8 to 20.

Reflecting on his selection, Pramod expressed, “I feel extremely pleased. My family shares in my joy. I've always aspired to represent India, so this is a monumental step in my career.”

Upon seeing his name listed, Pramod immediately contacted his mother. “She has sacrificed so much to support my aspirations and has been my unwavering pillar,” he shared.

His mother has been instrumental in his journey. Tragically, his father lost his life in an accident before Pramod was born. His grandmother, who worked in a bank, played a vital role in nurturing Pramod and his siblings during their formative years. Meanwhile, his mother toiled in farming to provide her children with better opportunities.

Pramod first encountered hockey in the sixth grade. Over the years, the sport has opened numerous doors for him, including employment with the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), where he also represented their hockey team. He has participated in three National Championships, but it was his stellar performance at the 2025 Senior National Championships in Jhansi, where he played for Hockey Madhya Pradesh and helped secure a silver medal, that served as a crucial turning point, facilitating his entry into the national setup.

Currently training at the SAI Centre in Bengaluru, Pramod is maximizing his experience. “Things have been progressing well. Engaging with everyone, including players who have been part of the camp for a while, is providing me with invaluable insights,” he noted.

Pramod also shared his experiences under the guidance of India A coach Shivendra Singh. “I’m learning a plethora of new concepts, particularly regarding structures and formations. The coach is incredibly supportive, ensuring we grasp everything thoroughly. Collaborating on new strategies and tactics with him is enjoyable.”

As he looks forward to the tour, Pramod is enthusiastic about taking the field. “I am eagerly anticipating playing against international competitors. This will be a novel experience for me. My goal is to perform exceptionally, give my all, and secure a spot in the senior team, allowing me to continue representing India on the global stage.”
