Beckenham, June 14 (NationPress) Indian fast bowler Prasidh Krishna expressed that the inaugural day of the intra-squad match at Kent County Cricket Ground provided an excellent opportunity for players to gain valuable game time as they prepare for the upcoming five-match Test series against England, set to commence on June 20.
This marks the first time the complete Indian squad is engaging in gameplay together since their arrival in England, during the ongoing four-day practice match. Previously, players such as Karun Nair, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shardul Thakur, and KL Rahul (who played only his second match) participated in two unofficial Tests against the England Lions.
“It’s vital for all of us to seize this game time… as some players are transitioning from the ‘A’ matches. Being on the field is essential. That’s what transpired today,” Prasidh shared with bcci.tv.
“The pitch appears to be good and solid. Bowlers have been active throughout, executing some excellent spells. The batsmen also displayed resilience. Competing against one another is always beneficial.
“We are all thrilled and really enjoying the experience. It’s wonderful to reunite after some time, sharing memories and cricket narratives from various teams. We aim to maintain a light-hearted atmosphere,” he remarked after the day’s play on Friday.
The 29-year-old bowler believes maintaining concentration over extended periods is critical for success in the red-ball format and emphasizes that the squad must collaborate effectively to accomplish this.
“You need to remain alert when your opportunity arises. However, it’s challenging to stay focused for extended durations, especially when you’re not on the field, so it’s crucial to have some fun,” Prasidh noted.
“When you can feel the dynamics of the game, it’s important to support your team at key moments, ensuring you are engaged because anything can unfold in cricket. We are all sufficiently experienced to know when to be alert and when to relax.”
Captain Shubman Gill and senior wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul both registered half-centuries, while Shardul Thakur claimed wickets during the opening day of the intra-squad match, as reported by BCCI on social media.
