New Delhi, May 22 (NationPress) Preity Zinta, co-owner of Punjab Kings and a renowned Bollywood actress, has initiated legal proceedings against her fellow co-directors Mohit Burman and Ness Wadia in a Chandigarh court. The trio serves as directors of KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited, the entity behind the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Punjab Kings.
As reported by various media outlets, Zinta is contesting the validity of an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) that took place on April 21. She asserts that the meeting was convened without adhering to the proper protocols outlined in the Companies Act, 2013, and other relevant secretarial regulations. Zinta claims she expressed her objections via email on April 10, which were disregarded. She further alleges that Burman proceeded with the meeting, allegedly with Wadia’s backing.
Although Zinta and another director, Karan Paul, were present at the meeting, she is seeking a court ruling to declare it null and void. A primary issue she raises is the appointment of Muneesh Khanna as a director during the meeting, a decision she and Paul opposed.
In her legal action, Zinta has requested the court to bar Khanna from acting as a director and to prevent the company from executing any resolutions made during that meeting.
Additionally, she has urged the court to prohibit the company from conducting any further board or general meetings in the absence of both herself and Karan Paul, as well as without Muneesh Khanna's participation, until the matter is resolved.
Despite these legal challenges, Preity Zinta remains a vocal supporter of Punjab Kings from the stands in the ongoing IPL 2025 season, which has seen the team perform strongly.
Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, Punjab Kings have successfully secured a playoff spot for the first time since 2014. With 17 points from 12 matches, they currently hold the third position and are striving for a top-two finish.
The upcoming matches include a face-off against Delhi Capitals in Jaipur on Saturday (May 24) and a game against Mumbai Indians on Monday (May 26) to conclude their league matches.
