Paarl, Jan 16 (NationPress) The emerging talent Lhuan-dre Pretorious is quickly establishing himself as a hero in the SA20 league, delivering a stunning half-century in the Paarl Royals’ Cape derby triumph against local rivals MI Cape Town at Boland Park.

Pretorius launched an impressive innings, hitting three sixes and eight fours in a brisk 52-ball 83, following his debut score of 97 at the same venue. The 18-year-old has swiftly garnered the admiration of Royals fans.

While chasing a target of 158/4 set by MI Cape Town, Pretorius took full advantage of two dropped catches, leading the home team to a six-wicket victory, thus avenging their earlier loss at Newlands.

The powerful left-handed batsman struck the ball cleanly across Boland Park, showing particular dominance against left-arm spinner George Linde with a couple of sixes over the leg-side.

His innings came to an end only due to a brilliant fielding effort from MI Cape Town captain Rashid Khan, who executed a direct hit to break the stumps.

However, by then, Pretorius had inflicted significant damage, allowing Royals skipper David Miller to guide his team home with an unbeaten 22.

Earlier, MI Cape Town had managed to post a competitive score thanks to Rassie van der Dussen’s impressive 91 not out off 64 balls.

Reeza Hendricks supported with a solid 30, but after being clean bowled for the second time by the Royals' mystery spinner Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, the home team seized control.

Mujeeb (2-27), along with Sri Lankan debutant Dunith Wellalage (0-17) and Joe Root (1-24), made the most of the spin-friendly conditions to tighten their grip on the MI Cape Town middle order.

This strategic play proved decisive, propelling the Royals into joint second place alongside the Joburg Super Kings with eight points. MI Cape Town remains at the top of the table with nine points but has played one additional game than their two closest competitors.
